Co-Hosted by the Overview Directed energy (DE) is an important and expanding technology area for the military. Taken to include High Energy Laser (HEL) and High Power Microwave (HPM) systems, DE is creating a new class of weapons. Military test and evaluation (T&E) is currently adapting to these radically new technologies. New measures, methods, and facilities are required for adequate T&E of these systems.

Tours at Kirtland Air Force Base Live demonstrations and tours of the Active Denial System and the Advanced Tactical Laser at Kirtland AFB were held on Thursday morning, August 13. Attendance was limited and particpation restricted to persons who submitted classified visit requests. People on Active Denial tour were allowed to volunteer for the demonstration and experience the full power capabilities for themselves.
