Education is vital to the Directed Energy community. Fostering the professional growth of current workers in the field and
increasing the number of young, new members in the community are important DEPS educational goals. This is the seventeenth
Workshop in a series of DE Education Workshops to advance these goals. The
Workshops consider current and future Directed
Energy education programs around the country. Support for the Workshop is provided by the Directed Energy Joint
Transition Office and by DEPS.
The scope of the Workshop includes:
- Graduate/post-graduate studies and technical vocational training
- Professional continuing education
- Student motivators (scholarships, fellowships, recognitions)
- Summer internship programs
- Curriculum development
Additionally, the Education Workshop offers a sampling of the work currently being pursued
by students, especially those supported by JTO internships or
scholarships.
The Workshop will be held in parallel with sessions of the
Twentieth Annual Directed Energy Science and Technology Symposium, also held in
Oxnard on 26 February - 2 March 2018.
Proceedings of the Workshop are included in the unclassified Symposium proceedings. Proceedings from
previous Workshops are available through the DEPS online store.
Registration
Registration for the Workshop is closed.
Call for Papers
Contributions are solicited for inclusion in the technical program of the Workshop. Contributions
must be unclassified, suitable for public release, and are due on 4 January 2018. (This is a few weeks after the
Annual DE S&T Symposium deadline for abstract submission.) Suitable
topics include any within the scope of the Workshop. Past Workshops have included presentations by
students as well as by instructors, mentors and educational program managers.
The deadline for abstract submittals to the 2018 DE Education Workshop has passed.
Please contact Dr. Harro Ackerman at Harro.Ackermann@jto.hpc.mil if you have
any questions regarding abstracts.
After notification of acceptance, the abstract authors will submit presentations, optional papers and release forms using the same
instructions and forms that are required of Symposium presenters. See
Symposium submission instructions.
